The first-ever attraction known as ‘canopy tour’ was created in the mid-nineties by an eco-adventure-minded group of Canadians in Costa Rica, Central America. The original idea was to use high angle techniques, equipment and ziplines to allow visitors to experience the upper level of the tropical forest in the hopes that increased appreciation of the ecology would boost conservation efforts.

Within a short time similar attractions appeared in other areas of Costa Rica and eventually the activity expanded internationally. To date there are hundreds of tours of this type in operation throughout the world although most of them are still concentrated in Central America and the Caribbean. Zip Fiji is the first canopy tour operator in Fiji! Opened in 2008, our tour has become one of the most popular attractions in the South Pacific.

The majority of attractions of this type offer an adrenaline-oriented experience with little or no ecological or educational component, hence the growing use of the term ‘zipline’, rather than ‘canopy tour’, which implies a broader experience.
